This sees about 700 schools that has closed down, merged or no longer qualify under the new regulations. While there are some schools still having their registration under process, the number of EduTrust certified schools that allows enrolment for foreign students at this update stands at 21 schools for the 4-year validity EduTrust and 42 schools for the 1-year validity EduTrust Provisional. This enhanced voluntary certification put in place measures to ensure students are protected such as school fees insurance in the event that these schools closes down.

Areas such as corporate governance, fee protection for students and teacher selection are evaluated before the EduTrust mark is awarded. It is therefore important for prospective students to search for private schools with the relevant award given by the regulatory body to ensure a peace of mind while pursuing their studies here in Singapore.

I completed a Bsc degree from Auston Institute of Management last year and there is  a graduation ceremony on the 19th of March this year.

I really do not understand why the price of gown rental is set at $120 for only 4hrs of usage, with Serangoon Broadway is the official gown vendor.  Are they trying to make every bit of $???

This is seriously ridiculous.

This news about ‘missing’ MCQ exam answer papers was reported in the local newspaper TODAY and CNA on Friday 17th Dec 2010. A group of 31 students from MDIS Mass Comm were told that their MCQ exam answer scripts which were attempted on October 9 this year went ‘missing’.

In the news, it was mentioned that Oklahoma City University (OCU) which is the partner university for the mass communications programme had advised these MDIS students to retake the exams.

MDIS has reportedly met the students, majority are foreigners and whom are in the final year  last Friday to get feedback on how best to help them.

There have been various talks recently before today’s published newspaper news regarding information that ECU has decided to pull out of MDIS. With this comes to the question on what happens to existing students who are part of the ECU programme in MDIS.

A local newspaper carried the news today regarding this pullout. You may read the full details from mypaper.sg e-newspaper dated Friday Nov 19 2010 and the news is carried on page A6.

It was mentioned in the paper that the decision by ECU was from its ‘strategic goals and objectives’. It is also good to know that MDIS will address the concerns by meeting the students ‘early next week’.

This news which was carried in a major local newspaper on 23 October 2010 came after another private school informed its students earlier that it has decided to cease operations citing financial difficulties.

As of the current news report, there are 195 private schools in Singapore that has registered with the EduTrust regulatory body while another 115 are currently undergoing evaluation. Of the thousand of private schools currently operating in Singapore offering various degrees and diploma programmes, only 46 private schools has made the mark to be given the EduTrust award.
